About

I am in my early sixties  and having been made redundant after a career in education, find myself retired and living with my husband in the Algarve. We bought a just built  house here with an undeveloped garden and this blog is the story of our transition to a different way of life and the development of a garden from scratch. Lots of people have helped me along the way, neighbours, friends, both face to face and virtual and I am very grateful to them all.

I have two grown up children, still in London. I am looking forward to combining two of my hobbies in this blog, gardening and writing.  I hope you enjoy my blog.

This blog is dedicated to Doris, a wonderful  friend of mine who is no longer here, and without whom, none of this would have happened.

  1. Thank you so much for following my blog. I too love gardening, and I am a writer first and foremost. I look forward to reading. : )

  2. Hi Mandy, thanks for reading and following my blog. Indeed, asparagaus will survive, it grows very well here. I don’t grow it as the wild variety grows in the hills all around me, so I forage it in season. It tastes a little more bitter and is smaller, but delcious all the same.
Enjoy your new life and I hope you make the transition smoothly.

  3. Hi Jo, he gardens alongside me, but doing stuff like cutting trees, making greenhouses and making the right noises about how beautiful the garden is. Luckily I don’t have to share the planting plans with him, or I think wed come to blows! He has got green fingers though and once threw a supermarket peach pip into the ground in our London garden which grew into a huge tree!

  4. No worries. I’m in the Algarve at present and doing my best to ignore the distractions of blogging 🙂 🙂 We have to ‘borrow’ Wifi from the neighbours so I keep it to a minimum, and it’s too nice to be indoors.
